R36H vs R36H Pro Max: What's the Difference?
The R36H Pro Max is a bigger-screen version of the R36H, with a 4.2-inch 1024×768 display, a 3500mAh battery and built-in Wi-Fi, on the same RK3326 chip. Here is how the two compare and which to buy.
Is the R36H Pro Max a Different Device?
Yes. The R36H Pro Max is a larger horizontal handheld from the same “Game Console” brand, launched in late 2025. It is also referred to as the R45H. It keeps the R36H's RK3326 chip and 1GB of RAM but adds a bigger, sharper 4.2-inch screen, a larger battery and built-in Wi-Fi, according to Notebookcheck and Retrohandhelds. Emulation performance is therefore in the same class as the standard R36H. The screen is the main upgrade.

Sellers use “Pro Max” loosely across the R36 family, and some Pro Max listings state battery figures or bundled OS versions that differ from reviewed units. Compare the listing's screen size and resolution with the table below before buying.

Which One Should You Buy?
Choose the Pro Max if screen size matters most. The 4.2-inch 1024×768 panel makes text-heavy RPGs and small-font menus easier to read, and built-in Wi-Fi helps with scraping box art and updates.
Choose the standard R36H if you want the smaller, lighter device with the longer independent track record. Its firmware community is better documented, and its board revisions are already listed by the dArkOSRE project. Because both use the RK3326, the Pro Max does not play anything the R36H cannot. Both handle 8-bit, 16-bit and PlayStation systems well.
Retrohandhelds' owner feedback on early Pro Max units mentions loose battery connectors and buttons. Check recent reviews on the exact listing you are considering.
